Oppo Reno leaks show unusual pop-up camera

Pop-up camera mechanisms are one way for smartphone makers to avoid using a notch, and Oppo is one of the companies that’s used a pop-up camera before. If new leaks is to be believed, though, Oppo’s next pop-up camera is going to be a bit different than the ones we’ve seen before.

Images and video of the Oppo Reno show an angled pop-up front camera mechanism. Rather than a small pop-up mechanism that sticks straight out from the phone’s body, the Oppo Reno’s pop-up camera is sloped and appears to span the entire top part of the phone.

A leaked video shows the Oppo Reno’s pop-up camera in action, adding support to the leaked images that show the phone with a sloped pop-up front cam.

Other leaked images of the Oppo Reno show it with a dual rear camera setup as well as USB-C and 3.5mm ports on the bottom of the phone. There also appears to be a fingerprint reader on the side of the device.

Meanwhile, a recent specs leak suggests that the Oppo Reno could include a Snapdragon 855 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a display resolution of 2340×1080.

Oppo recently posted a teaser video for the Reno to Twitter, adding that the device is launching this April, meaning we should get some official info about it soon. While the wedge pop-up camera mechanism does look kind of strange, it could be a smart decision. Since it’s sloped and covers the entire top portion of the Reno, it could be less susceptible to snapping off compared to other pop-up cameras that are smaller and stick straight out from the phone’s body.
