Microsoft has released optional cumulative update for Windows
10 version 1903 (May 2019 Update) to fix a host of annoying
problems. The optional patch is shipping via Windows Update and

installers are also available.

Microsoft says this is an optional update and it won’t install
automatically on consumers’ computer. The non-security update
advances the system to Windows 10 Build 18362.449 and the OS
version number remain unchanged.

The key highlight of Windows 10 Build 18362.449 is its Start
menu fixes that troubled thousands of users over the past few
weeks. In addition to
Start menu problems, the update will also address issues
with Windows Search, Taskbar and
Microsoft Edge where these basic features stop
responding on some configurations.

As always, you should be able to grab the patch by manually
checking for updates and explicitly allowing Windows to
download the package. You can also download the offline
installer and
manually deploy the cumulative update on Windows 10.

Windows 10 KB4522355 (Build 18362.449) Full Changelog

Build 18362.449 is the third cumulative update for Windows 10
version 1903 released in October. The first security-only patch
for Windows 10 version 1903 was released on October 3 and
Microsoft began shipping Patch Tuesday improvements on October
8, and today the first optional update of the month has been
released.

Start Menu in version 1903

Installing today’s cumulative update will address more than 40
bugs in the operating system that affected Start Menu, Windows
Search, Taskbar, VPN services and other core features.

For example, previous builds were experiencing various problems
including an annoying bug that prevented a scroll bar from
being selected. Another bug where users are locked from
changing the window size of certain apps in some cases has been
resolved.

There was also a glitch that prevented users from connecting to
a virtual private network (VPN) and an issue that caused system
stability problems on the sign-in screen. For unknown reasons,
some users were having troubles when app thumbnails were
displayed on high DPI monitors.

Unlike the previous updates, this one includes significant
improvements for general consumers as well. For instance, a
minor issue has been fixed where Microsoft Photos app tile may
appear larger than expected.

Last but not least, Microsoft has ironed out another wrinkle
where general updates may cause a black screen to appear at the
sign-in screen.

The October 2019 patch, which resolves these problems, is
rolling out via Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog.

At the time of writing this story, Microsoft says it’s not
aware of any other critical bugs hitting the operating system.

SSU (Servicing Stack Update) released

The Redmond firm is also rolling out a Servicing Stack Update
(KB4525419) with a fix for an issue where some installations of
Windows cannot be serviced or updated.
