Windows 10 Build 17666 is now available for Insiders with new features

Microsoft today released a new Windows 10 Build 17666 for
Insiders in the Fast and Skip Ahead Ring. The latest build is
part of Redstone 5 development branch. The last few builds for
Windows Insiders included bug fixes as at that time Microsoft
was working on improving the performance of Windows 10 April
2018 Update.

The latest build 17666 comes with lots of major new features
which the company had announced at its Build 2018 conference
couple of days ago. Microsoft is expected to release Redstone 5
update for all Windows 10 users this fall.

The build includes many new features and improvements
pertaining Fluent design elements and improvements to Sets
along with the
Dark theme for File Explorer and more. With the new preview
build, Microsoft is bringing Fluent Design elements to Sets.
The Fluent Design elements have been added to the title bar
with some changes being made to the window border which is now
in grey color.

Microsoft Edge tabs are also getting some improvements with
Microsoft adding all the recent tabs when you use Alt + Tab to
quickly switch back and forth between apps. Muting tabs in Sets
is now possible with Microsoft letting users to mute audio from
a webpage by clicking on the volume icon visible on the tab.
This option is similar to muting volume in Microsoft Edge.

Background performance of the opened tabs has now been improved
significantly with the tab not using any resources in the
background. A lot of tabs can be restored without facing any

Microsoft is adding
Cloud Clipboard in the latest build which brings new experience
for users. Users will now be able to press WIN + V to be
able to enjoy a new clipboard experience. You will be able to
now pin the items from the clipboard along with being able to
directly paste from the clipboard history.

The new clipboard experience in Windows 10 is powered by
Microsoft’s cloud technology letting you access your clipboard
across any PC. Users would need to enable this feature by
going to Settings > System > Clipboard. The clipboard
history supports plain text, HTML and images which are less
than 1MB in size.

The major new feature which has been added in this build is the
introduction of Dark theme for the File Explorer. This was the
most requested feature by the Windows Insiders and Microsoft
has finally adhered to their request. You will be able to
enable Dark Theme by going to Settings >

Microsoft at its Build 2018 announced support of extended line
endings for Notepad. This support has been finally added with
Notepad now supporting Unix/Linux and Macintosh line ending.
Users will now be able to add name to the tile folders created
in Start.

For creating tile folder users would need to drag one tile on
top of another. You can add as many tiles as you
want. After adding all the tiles you would need to expand
the folder to be able to give a name to the tile folder. The
name will be visible only when the folder is medium, wide or
large in size.

The latest Windows 10 Build 17666 is a big update with many new
features and improvements which is available to download for
Insiders enrolled in Fast and Skip Ahead Rings. You can get it
by going to Settings>Update & Security>Windows
Update>Check for Updates.
