Facebook-owned WhatsApp today released a new update for its app
on Windows Phone. The new version of WhatsApp comes with
the much-awaited Group calls feature. WhatsApp has been updated
to version 2.18.164 and you can download it from the Microsoft
Store.

The Group Calls feature was already available for beta users
and after beta testing the feature, the developers have pushed
out it to all Windows Phone users.

To get started with Group calls, you would first need to select
a contact and initiate a normal voice call. During the voice
call, send a video call request to the other person and when
the request accepted, you can add another person to the same
call by selecting “Add Contact” option on your screen.

The third person should be able to the video call after
accepting the request. It seems that the feature is still
rolling out and it’s available on all of our devices yet.

In addition to the Group video calls feature, WhatsApp is also
adding new options to the admin account in a group. The
admins will now be able to make changes as to who can be
allowed to sent messages in the particular group.

The admin also has the authority to restrict the option of sent
messages to themselves. This feature reduces any passing on of
fake messages to other group members.

The latest update also comes with the usual bug fixes and
performance improvements to the app. To get the latest WhatsApp
update, you would need to be on Windows Phone 8.1 and above
since WhatsApp is no longer developing the app for an older
version of Microsoft’s mobile platform.

As always, you can head to the Microsoft Store and navigate to
Download and Updates > Get Updates to grab the new version
of WhatsApp.
