TLDR: Inside Renton’s effort to become the next big tech hub of the Pacific Northwest

This week, GeekWire has set up shop in Renton, Wash., bringing you stories of the city’s growth and the momentum of its tech scene from Oct. 28 through Nov. 3.

In this episode of our TLDR video show, we caught up with GeekWire reporter Taylor Soper, who is leading our Renton coverage, which kicks off our new series, “GeekWire on the Road.”

Historically, Renton has been a very industrial city — it is perhaps best known as the home of Boeing’s 737 assembly plant. Boeing first established a presence in Renton during WWII and has not left since. However, residents of Renton have experienced many changes in the past several years, with new office buildings and other real estate projects transforming large portions of the city.

Although there are some mixed feelings among residents about these changes, overall, people in Renton seem excited. Between 2000 to 2010, the city’s population doubled, and it continues to grow.
