This Week’s Japanese Game Releases: Oninaki, Tokyo Chronos, more

Oninaki and Tokyo Chronos are the highlights of this week’s Japanese game releases.

While both titles are due out worldwide, physical editions are only planned for release in Japan. Fortunately, the Japanese physical releases also include English text support.

Oninaki is the latest classic-style action RPG from Square Enix subsidiary Tokyo RPG Factory, the studio behind I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear. It tells the story of a Watcher “on a journey to protect Life, after Death.” It features “fast-paced, free-flowing gameplay with real-time battles,” character customization through Daemon partners, and a story told through “emotional cutscenes, events, and intimate conversations.”

Tokyo Chronos is a virtual reality mystery visual novel set in an empty, deserted Shibuya where time has frozen over, where the fate of eight childhood friends lies in the player’s hands. It features over 5,000 lines of voice-acted dialogue, and multiple routes and endings.

Other new releases this week include Arcade Love: Plus Pengo!, Katakoi Contrast: Collection of Branch, and the Switch version of Mary Skelter 2, which is also due out worldwide digitally.
