When it announced the Xperia XZ2 Premium earlier this year, Sony said that its new high-end smartphone would launch globally this summer. Today its U.S. launch info was finally revealed.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium will be available for pre-order in the U.S. from Amazon and Best Buy starting July 9th, and it’ll launch on July 30th. Pricing for the unlocked phone will cost $999.99.
One other detail about the Xperia XZ2 Premium pre-order that’s notable is that Amazon will throw in a pair of Xperia Ear Duo wireless headphones with each pre-order.
Sony’s Xperia XZ2 Premium is a high-end Android 8.0 device that features a 5.8-inch 3840×2160 display, Snapdragon 845 processor, and 6GB of RAM. There’s a dual rear camera setup with a 19MP color sensor and 12MP monochrome sensor, and those cameras offer an ISO of 51,200 for super low light images. Sony has also said that it’ll add bokeh and monochrome features in Q3 2018.
Other specs of the Xperia XZ2 Premium include a 13MP front-facing camera with wide angle lens, 64GB of built-in storage, and a microSD card slot. There’s a 3540mAh battery powering the phone, and you can recharge it over USB-C or using wireless charging. One thing that the Xperia XZ2 Premium doesn’t have, though, is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
With a 4K display, 6GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 845, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium is definitely a flagship-tier device. Its high price tag and lack of U.S. carrier support mean that the Xperia XZ2 Premium may not see super strong sales when it arrives stateside, but it’s still great to see Sony continue to bring its Xperia smartphones to the U.S. in an unlocked form for those consumers that do want them.
