Sony Xperia 5 Plus renders hint at tall OLED screen and triple rear camera setup

This week’s starting off with a bang for fans of Sony smartphones, because just after we learned that Android 10 is rolling out to more Xperia devices, some renders of an unannounced Sony handset have surfaced.

Meet the Sony Xperia 5 Plus. This model appears to keep the tall 21:9 display of the Xperia 5 that launched last year, but bumps the screen size up from 6.1 inches to 6.6 inches. The screen is an OLED panel, says OnLeaks, and it’s said to be a flat display rather than one with curved edges.

Around back we can see a triple rear camera setup with a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor that’ll help gather depth information. There’s no rear fingerprint reader on this Xperia 5 Plus, but rather than an in-display fingerprint sensor, Sony is reportedly going with a side-mounted fingerprint reader like it’s used on previous Xperia devices.

Other notable features of this device include a USB-C port on the bottom, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, and a dedicated camera button on the side. Sony is one of the only smartphone makers still offering a dedicated camera key, and it’s nice to see that continue here. The company is also sticking with the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is another feature that many other device makers are abandoning. Sony may not be the biggest Android OEM around, but its effort to continue using features like these that others are ditching is sure to keep some loyal customers.

The Xperia 5 Plus will also reportedly include an 8MP selfie camera and dual front-facing speakers.

There’s no word yet on when the Xperia 5 Plus might be announced. Sony has used MWC to introduce new hardware in the past, so we could see this new device revealed there next month. Stay tuned.
