Hoo boy, look what we done caught in the inter-net.

Big Mouth Billy Bass, the flopping, singing, plastic sensation mounted in places where you probably should only go with a friend is now being released into the wild with Amazon’s Alexa capabilities, responding to commands usually reserved for devices such as the Echo.

If this sounds like a familiar fish story, it’s because the idea was first floated back in 2016, when a developer named Brian Kane hooked his Bass to Amazon’s voice assistant. Nearly 2 million views later on Facebook, the makers of the real Billy Bass took notice and now you can buy the thing on Amazon for $39.99.

Want to ask Billy to read the news, or find out what the weather report is down at the local fishing hole? Watch as its lips move and Alexa’s voice comes out.

“This is not your father’s Big Mouth Billy Bass,” said Steven Harris, vice president of product development at Gemmy Industries, which is the Big Mouth Billy Bass parent company, in a statement reported by Business Insider. The original product first came out in 1999 and would sing songs like “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”

Oh, we’ve come so far.

Here’s to hoping you have other smart devices in your home, like a stove.

“Alexa, fire up the frying pan.”
