New Pixel 4 leak shares more info on Motion Sense gestures

Google has already confirmed that the Pixel 4 will include Motion Sense gestures that will let you perform actions without touching your phone, like swiping your hand over the screen to change a song. The company hasn’t gone into much detail about those features, though, which is where the rumor mill comes in.

A video of the Pixel 4’s Motion Sense settings has leaked out, revealing some of the actions that you’ll be able to perform. In a video from M. Brandon Lee of This is Tech Today (via XDA-Developers), we can see that the Pixel 4’s “Silence interruptions” gesture will let you snooze alarms and silence calls by waving your hand in front of the phone.

The video also shows a “Reach to check phone” gesture that’ll show the time, your notifications, and other info when the Pixel 4 senses that you’re reaching for your phone. And then there’s the “Skip songs” gesture, which lets you change the currently playing song by swiping left or right in front of the screen. This setting lets you choose which direction you want to swipe to change tracks.

Today’s leak also includes some new, high-quality photos of the Pixel 4 hardware. The images include close-up shots of the front of the phone, giving us a clear view of its bezels and buttons. The buttons and sides of the phone appear to have a matte finish. And as with past Pixel phones, the Pixel 4 will have a mismatched power button color, in this case a white button on a black phone.

Motion Sense looks like it’s going to be a major feature of the Pixel 4, helping you control your device without actually touching it. We’ve seen some smartphones try to use these air gesture controls in the past with mixed results, so we’re looking forward to seeing if Google and its Soli sensor can offer better gestures that make us actually want to use them rather than just touching our phone.
