As if the Trump administration’s plan to establish a Space Force by 2020 wasn’t comical enough — especially in the straight-faced nature of the vice president’s Thursday announcement — now America’s late night television hosts have weighed in.

Jimmy Kimmel said Mike Pence’s remarks about forming a separate military branch to beef up satellite defense were not a scene from a movie — but action filmmaker Michael Bay is “on board to direct the whole thing.”

Kimmel said that logos being considered for Space Force look like the patches on uniforms worn by the aliens at Pizza Planet in the animated hit “Toy Story.”

Kimmel even dug up footage from a TV show called “Space Force” that aired on NBC in the 1970s. Actor Fred Willard starred, and he showed up in uniform again Thursday night.

“As soon as I heard President Trump was bringing the Space Force back, I re-enlisted,” Willard said.

Over at the “Tonight Show,” host Jimmy Fallon also got in his shots at futuristic militarism, saying that the Space Force chain of command will go E.T., Yoda, then Groot. He also mocked Pence’s alien-like delivery in which the veep said, “I bring greetings from President Trump.”

Stephen Colbert greeted his “Late Show” audience by saying hello to the citizens of Earth — “and if this is a re-run from two years from now, ‘Hello to all our fighting boys in the asteroid belt.’”

Colbert called Space Force Trump’s boldest idea “that he got from a Buzz Lightyear Happy Meal toy.”

On “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the host made a quick jab, saying that letting the president decide we need a Space Force is kind of like letting your kid decide which car you should buy. He then flashed a pic of a boy in front of Oscar Meyer’s Wienermobile.
