HTC Wildfire X official with 6.22-inch display and three rear cameras

HTC Wildfire X official

It feels like it’s been awhile since we’ve seen a new HTC phone, but that drought is ending today.

The HTC Wildfire X is now official, reviving a brand that HTC first used way back in 2010. The new Wildfire X is just a bit different than that original Wildfire, though, sporting a 6.2-inch 1520×720 screen with a waterdrop notch that’s home to an 8MP selfie camera.

Around back there’s a triple camera setup that includes a 12MP main snapper, an 8MP telephoto cam with 2x optical zoom, and a 5MP depth camera that’ll help you take portrait mode photos with a bokeh effect. There’s also a fingerprint reader on the back of the new HTC Wildfire X.

Moving inside the phone, there’s a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 processor powering HTC’s new handset, and it’s paired with up to 4GB of RAM. The Wildfire X boasts up to 128GB of built-in storage, and a microSD card slot will let you add more storage if the built-in amount isn’t enough. There’s a 3300mAh battery powering the Wildfire X, and 10W fast charging support is included, too.

Rounding out the HTC Wildfire X spec list is Android 9.0 Pie, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a MyBuddy accessory that’s included with the phone. With MyBuddy, you can track your phone’s location, send that live location to friends or family, transmit real-time audio or video of its surroundings, and trigger a loud alarm.

One other interesting thing to note about the Wildfire X is that it’s not actually made by HTC. According to GSMArena, the new phone is made by Chinese manufacturer InOne Smart Technology, who has licensed the HTC name for the launch of the Wildfire X.

The HTC Wildfire X will launch in India on August 22. Pricing will start at ₹10,999 ($154 USD) for the model with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and there will be a 4GB/128GB model available for ₹13,999 ($196 USD).

HTC has been having a rough time in the smartphone market lately, especially compared to 2010 when the original Wildfire launched and HTC was one of the top Android smartphone makers around. While the Wildfire X isn’t going to make HTC return to its former glory all on its own, but for anyone who’s a fan of HTC and is in the market for a new device, the Wildfire X does seem to offer a decent spec list that includes triple rear cameras and a large display.
