April 2018 update

Windows 10 April 2018 update (version 1803) was just recently
released to the public but unfortunately, the build is not
stable and users reported a lot of issues with the update. Some
users had trouble installing the update. Others had a few
issues with hardware components like mouse, microphone, etc.
Sadly, the issues don’t end here. Some Reddit users reported
that they are facing freezing issues with Google Chrome.

Google Chrome might have compatibility issues with the latest
update. But not all users are affected. The freezing occurs
doing random things such as opening a new tab or just browsing
the web. Other applications may also freeze if Google Chrome is
running in the background.

The good thing is that Microsoft is now aware of the issue. A
Microsoft Agent has confirmed in the Microsoft Community forum
that some devices which are on Windows 10 April 2018 update may
experience freezing issues when using applications such as
Google Chrome and “Hey Cortana”. So even an app integrated into
the operating system has issues with the latest update.

How to fix freezing issue in Google Chrome

Microsoft has also given a couple of methods to fix the
freezing issue while using Google Chrome and “Hey Cortana”. If
your device freezes while you are using Google Chrome or any
other app, you can follow any of the following methods to fix
this issue without restarting the system.

  • If you are using a laptop and you face a freezing issue,
then the simplest fix you can try is just to close the laptop
lid and then open it. On closing the laptop lip, the system
goes into sleep mode and when the lid is opened, the system
wakes up to Windows 10. This small fix will be enough for a
    laptop user.
  • If you have anything other than a laptop and you are facing
this issue, you can try a sequence of Windows key presses to
wake up the screen. If you are using a desktop or a tablet with
a keyboard connected to it, press Windows logo key + Ctrl
+ Shift + B and this will fix the issue. If you are using a
tablet without any keyboard attached to it, you can
press both the volume-up and volume-down buttons 3 times
immediately within 2 seconds. If Windows is still on, then
there will be a short beep and the screen will either dim or
blink. Windows will refresh the screen which would fix the
    issue.

Windows 10 April 2018 update has been very unfortunate to many
users. Microsoft has a lot of work to make this version stable.
Microsoft says that the freezing issue will be fixed via a
cumulative update which will roll out on May 8th.
