Google Cloud product leader arrested on suspicion of murder after wife goes missing in Hawaii

Police in Hawaii on Wednesday arrested a Bellevue, Wash. man on suspicion of second degree murder.

Sonam Saxena, 43, is the head of product for Google Cloud Deployment Manager in the Seattle area, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was arrested Wednesday following the discovery of a body near Anaehoomalu Bay in Hawaii on the Big Island, according to a press release issued by the Hawaii Police Department.

Police have not identified the body, but said it was “located in the general area where Smriti Saxena was reported as a missing person and last seen Tuesday evening.”

Smriti Saxena, 41, is the wife of Sonam Saxena and a business program manager at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash., according to LinkedIn.

Before his arrest, Sonam Saxena posted on both Twitter and LinkedIn about the situation. “Linkedin network my wife Smriti Saxena is missing,” he wrote on LinkedIn. “Can you please promote this tweet so that I can tell my daughters where their Mom is #help.”

He tagged Hawaii media sources, local police, and Hawaii Governor David Ige in his tweet.

Sonam Saxena spoke with West Hawaii Today after the body was located but before his arrest. He said he was with his wife at a secluded beach near Anaehoomalu Bay but left to retrieve her asthma inhaler from their hotel about 20 minutes away. When he returned, she was missing, according to his comments to West Hawaii Today.

The couple visit Hawaii every year to celebrate their eldest child’s birthday. Sonam Saxena told West Hawaii Today his two children, ages 13 and 8, were with him as he looked for his wife.

Sonam Saxena was previously a senior director at Seattle cloud startup SkyKick, and worked at Microsoft for nearly six years before that as a product manager.

Microsoft declined to comment. We’ve reached out to Google and will update this post when we hear back.
