Church technology startup Subsplash acquires top competitor Custom Church Apps

Subsplash, a Seattle startup that builds software and apps for churches, acquired one of its top competitors: Austin-based Custom Church Apps.

The company says the deal solidifies it as a “frontrunner” in church technology. The 14-year-old company builds custom mobile and TV apps, websites, media delivery, and digital donation software for churches.

Following the acquisition, Subsplash now has 125 employees spread across Seattle, Austin and Wenatchee, Wash. The combined company counts more than 10,000 churches around the world as customers, including 50 of the 100 biggest U.S. churches.

Subsplash, the 106th ranked company on the GeekWire 200 list of the Pacific Northwest’s top startups, is led by CEO Tim Turner, who has consulted on software projects for Xbox, Expedia, Samsung, Cisco, T-Mobile and others. Turner has received patents for work on touch-screen software and renewable energy.

Custom Church Apps was founded in 2012 in Portland, Ore. before later re-locating to Austin.
