Apple is hosting an event on March 25th, and the tagline “It’s show time.” suggests that video could be a focus. If you don’t feel like waiting until March 25th to find out what Apple has planned, though, a new rumor claims to have that info today.
Apple’s new video service will sell subscriptions to streaming video services, according to a report from Recode. This will include bundles of channels, which could include the likes of HBO, Showtime, and Starz, at a price that’s lower than what you’d pay for each channel separately. Apple would take a cut of each subscription its users sign up for.
This upcoming video service would also show Apple’s users what’s playing on the services that they subscribe to and suggest shows that they might be interested in watching.
It’s expected that Apple will have original content that users can watch, but that won’t be the focus, at least not out of the gate. A bundle of streaming services from Apple could be enticing to users, as it could help them consolidate several subscriptions into a single bundle and possibly save a few bucks compared to subscribing to multiple services separately. And while Apple wouldn’t be the first company to sell other companies’ streaming video services, there are likely some consumers out there that’d like to buy from Apple and get integration with devices like the Apple TV.
Also expected to be announced on March 25th is a “Netflix for news”-style service that’ll include magazines from publishers like Conde Nast and Hearst as well as content from the Wal lStreet Journal. It’s rumored that Apple could price this service at $10 per month.
Apple may also unveil a credit card that it’s partnered with Goldman Sachs on. Past rumors have suggested that this joint credit card could let you earn two percent cash back on purchases and possibly more on Apple products. It’s also said that the credit card could get special features in the Apple Wallet app, like spending goals, rewards tracking, and the ability to manage balances.
