The big update to this Apple’s 2019 iPhone models is expected to be a new wide angle rear camera. Now a new report claims to have info on one of the major upgrades that Apple is planning for the 2020 iPhones.

All three iPhones that launch in 2020 will have 5G support, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. It’d previously been rumored that Apple would only give 5G to two of its 2020 iPhone models, leaving one with 4G LTE connectivity. Now Kuo believes that all three 2020 iPhones will have 5G so that they can better compete against lower cost Android phones with 5G support.

The 2020 iPhones are expected to support both millimeter wave (mmWave) and sub-6GHz flavors of 5G. mmWave is faster but isn’t as good at penetrating buildings or reaching long distances, while sub-6GHz isn’t quite as fast as mmWave but can reach much farther.

While Apple just agreed to spend $1 billion on Intel’s smartphone modem business, it’s unlikely that Apple would have 5G modems ready to go for the 2020 iPhone models. It’s expected that Apple will use Qualcomm 5G modems for its 2020 iPhones.

5G technology is still very much in early days right now and U.S. carriers’ 5G networks are still very small. Considering all that, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Apple skip 5G for its 2019 iPhones, because Apple is a company that will wait for a technology to mature a bit before adopting it rather than trying to be first to market with a new features.

Rumors have also suggested that Apple will use OLED displays for all three 2020 iPhones, with screens available in 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch sizes.
