Android 9 Pie brings with it a lot of new features, including new gesture-based navigation, App Actions, and Slices. This week another notable Pie feature has been found.

Support for Xbox One S wireless controller mapping has been found inside Android 9 Pie. The controller was originally released in 2016 with Bluetooth support, but some Android games had problems with button mapping. Android users reported the issue to Google, and this week a Google engineer marked the issue as fixed in Android Pie.

This means that it should be easy to connect your Xbox One S controller to your Android phone or tablet and have buttons work like you’d expect, so long as you’re running Android Pie. What’s more, Fortnite developer Epic Games has told CNET that it’s planning to add Bluetooth controller support to Fortnite, but there’s no word yet on when that support will arrive.

Official support for the Xbox One S controller in Android Pie is a big deal. This Xbox controller is a popular option for gamers on both Xbox and PC thanks to its design and build quality, and now Android users on Pie will be able to use it on the go. This should give them a much better gaming experience when compared to using touchscreen controls.

Does using a physical controller with games on your smartphone or tablet interest you?
