Amazon expands StitchFix competitor Prime Wardrobe to all customers


Amazon’s try-before-you-buy clothing service is now available to anyone.

Prime Wardrobe was previously offered to Amazon Prime customers in the U.S. on an invite-only basis. The service lets online shoppers select and ship a box of clothes, shoes and accessories to their homes to try them on before buying.

Prime Wardrobe is similar to Nordstrom-owned Trunk Club or publicly-traded Stitch Fix. The idea is to give customers a dressing room experience inside the comfort of their own home. It’s also one of several ongoing fashion initiatives from Amazon, which is now the second-largest apparel retailer in the U.S. after Walmart.

Based on metrics from the beta period, Amazon said women’s most-ordered Prime Wardrobe items are denim and dresses. Men like trying on tops, jeans, and casual pants. Kids tend to order shoes.

Amazon has recently expanded other services that were previously available on a limited basis, including “Alexa for Hospitality” and its “Hub” apartment lockers.
