Last week, Acer announced the Predator Helios 500 gaming laptop with Intel Coffee Lake processors and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics. However, Acer is also making a version of the laptop for gamers that bleed AMD red.
The Predator Helios 500 (PH517-61) adopts AMD’s new second-generation Ryzen processors, up to a Ryzen 7 2700. This particular processor packs a powerful punch with 8 physical cores for a total of 16 threads. Like the Predator Helios 500 that was announced last week, customers can opt for a 17.3-inch panel with either a 1080p (144Hz) or 4K (60Hz) panel, but this time around it is paired with a Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU and 8GB of HBM2. Both panels support AMD FreeSync technology.
All other specs and options should be similar to the Intel/NVIDIA variant of the Predator Helios 500 including support for PCIe NVMe SSDs, Thunderbolt 3, Killer DoubleShot Pro networking, AeroBlade 3D fan blades and a snazzy backlit RGB keyboard.
In addition to the AMD-flavored Predator Helios 500, Acer has also announced AMD power for the Predator Orion 500 (PO5-100). This gaming desktop can be equipped with up to a Ryzen 7 2700X processor and comes backed by an AMD B450 chipset. Rather than opting for Radeon RX Vega graphics time around, Acer is installing an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 on high-end configurations. Acer also touts a transparent side panel so that you can see all the internal goodies of the gaming rig along with IceTunnel 2.0 airflow management to keep all of your high-performance components cool.
Finally, Acer is promoting the Nitro 50 (N50-100) gaming desktop that packs in up to an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X and up to either a Radeon RX 580 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. Other features include [up to] 512GB SSDs and 3TB HDDs for your storage needs and a Realtek Dragon LAN.
Acer will be rolling out these three systems next week for all to see at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan. The Predator Helios 500 will be priced from $2,199 and will ship in August; the Predator Orion 5000 bows in September priced from $1,499; and the Nitro 50 launches in September with a starting price of $899.
